The Storm
It is all down to Charles Macintosh in 1824, when he invented the item of clothing we call a mack to keep us dry in inclement weather. Ever since then, men and women have been turned on by the the look, the smell and/or the sensual feel of the mack’s fabric. Today, the rubberised mack is rare having been replaced by modern plastics but they can still be obtained from specialist manufacturers. Will we see a return to natural rubber (the latex of a rubber tree) being used to create our macks, given that plastic is seen as harmful to the environment? Who knows?
None the less, The Storm is one of the oldest and largest Association groups dating back to pre-WW1 with rubberised protective weather wear being the norm. The years since then have seen changes from very practical heavy rubber through to today’s fine plastics with rain capes and macks abounding. Quite often these days in the privacy of member’s bedrooms/homes, sadly not on the street.
The group celebrates the mack in all its forms, at regular weekend get-togethers around the world, as we can see here…
